Background:

Joseph Andreski was born in the town of Maine, Marathon County, Wisconsin on June 17, 1901 to  George and Clara (Kuntz) Andreski.  He lived in the Wausau area all of his life.



Accomplishments:

Mr. Andreski served as deputy sheriff under Sheriff Simon Schaumburger in 1932. He was deputy for four years afterwards under Sheriff Henry Kronenwetter. From February 1937–February 1942 he was a detective with the Wausau city police department.  After leaving the police department, he was employed as personnel manager for the Underwood Veneer Company until he was elected Sheriff of Marathon County in 1944.  He served in that office in 1945-1946.

Mr. Andreski, a tall, raw-boned man, earned the nickname “Big Joe” while serving as deputy sheriff in Marathon County for many years.  He was famed for his ability to “mix it up” with brawlers and break up fights occurring at dances and taverns in the county.

Joseph Andreski was married in Wausau, Wisconsin on February 1, 1936 to Miss Mabel Hazlen.  They had no children.  

Joseph Andreski, just 47 years old, died from internal injuries suffered in a car accident on November 30, 1948.  He is buried in Pine Grove Cemetery in Wausau, WI.
