Author:
Bill Hart

Background:

Albert Barney was born at Mayville, Dodge County, WI on June 2, 1835.  He attended the public school of Mayville, spent one term at the Whitewater Norman School, a short time at the United States Military Academy at West Point, NY and then studied law in the office of A.K. Delaney in Mayville.  He was admitted to the bar in 1878.

Accomplishments:

After his admission to the bar, he moved to Spencer, Marathon County, WI, where he established his law practice and also dealt some in real estate.  Since his law practice was limited exclusively to justice court practice, he found no real opportunity in the little village to make his mark in the field of law.  Albert Barney served in the Wisconsin state assembly in 1893-1894 representing Marathon County.

In the last years of his life, Albert Barney was at different times an inmate of the state hospital at Winnebago. He died in 1910.
