Background:

Vassie Atherton was born in England on November 28, 1887.  He was educated in the schools of England.  After graduating from Blackburn Technical School in England at the age of 22, he entered the plumbing fixtures business, starting as a clerk in the office.  After four years with that company he was forced to resign due to poor health.  He immigrated to Canada in 1913 and spent three years recuperating.



Accomplishments:

In 1916, Mr. Atherton came to Wausau. Realizing his boyhood dream to become a businessman, he organized and established the Wisconsin River Valley Supply Company, wholesale dealers of plumbing, heating, mill and dairy supplies.  Under the capable management of Mr. Atherton as president and general manager, the company experienced immediate and long-term success.

Vassie Atherton was married to Marion Clancy from Chicago.  They raised two daughters. Mr. Atherton was a member of all Masonic bodies, was a member of The Wausau Club, the Wausau Country Club and the Chamber of Commerce.

Vassie Atherton died on March 11, 1966.  He is buried in Restlawn Memorial Park in Wausau, WI.
