Background:

Population 1930 251, 2000-476.

Reportedly named for a village in Quebec, the village dates back to 1856 and was settled by Canadian loggers. Later Polish farmers immigrated to the area.

Part of the Township of Norrie, Hatley broke away when Norrie voted to be alcohol free.  Hatley area residents decided to form their own non-dry village.

About The Post Office:

Hatley P. O.  is still in service and is located in SW1/4, Section 19 of the township.

Churches:

St.  Florian Catholic Church was erected in 1898. R. E. Parcher gave 10 acres of land for the church site. The church was rebuilt in 1913-14.

Farming:

Potatoes - After being incorporated, Hatley became a major shipping point for the local potato harvest during the first half of the 20th century.
