The settlement of this town began from Portage County after the building of the Wisconsin Central railroad; for many years there was no communication or road to Wausau and the people did their trading in Stevens Point. Eventually roads were open between Wausau and Bevent, the village in this town. There were also roads to a small settlement in the town called Pike Lake.

Farming:

The soil in this town is excellent for growing potatoes and corn. Farmers grow thousands of bushels of potatoes.



Stories: In 1917, the Town of Pike Lake was divided into the Town of Reid and the Town of Bevent.
