Background:
Located on the Eau Pleine River, Riverside was once a small community.
Churches:
In about 1892 Harper Memorial Presbyterian Church, along with a 12 team horse barn, was built on land donated by R. H. Dickinson . The 20 x 96 foot team shed cost $155 and held the horses while people attended services. Rev. E. P. Rankin, assisted by Rev. Joseph Brown, served the church. In 1930, parishioners voted to join the Abbotsford Presbyterian Church.
Schools:
Riverside School - Riverside School, built in 1874 and renamed Riverview School in the 1940's, operated until 1962. This school consisted of 1 main classroom for 8 grades, 2 cloak rooms (one boys and one girls), a main entrance that had the water cooler, and a basement. One teacher taught all grades.

Business:
The Riverside Cheese Factory was built and operated by Robert Schmitt. It was closed in 1932 and later remodeled and opened as a dance hall and tavern. A sawmill was also owned and operated by Robert Schmitt until it closed in 1925.
James Hern owned and operated a grocery store from 1907 until the late 1930s.

Industry:
About one-half mile south of this Riverside settlement are the remains of old diggings known as Pete Schmitt's Mine. Some old timers claimed they found a trace of gold in the late 1800's which prompted the diggings. As far as is known, no gold was ever found.
Colby Land and Mining Company was formed when a specimen of copper-like ore was found on the William Eggebrecht farm. There is no record of minerals being found in this area.
