Background:
Louis Becker was born in Germany on November 6, 1865 to Anton and Caroline (Wehning) Becker. He came to America in 1882, settling first in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Accomplishments:
Mr. Becker came to Marathon County in 1889, working first in the lumber camps. He was one of the first employees of Marathon Corporation, helping to construct the dam at the Rothschild paper mill site.
Mr. Becker served on the Rothschild village board at the time the village incorporated and later served a term as village president. He was also a member of the Rothschild School Board for many years. He served as a director and was the treasurer of the Marathon County Agricultural Society. Always interested in the Wisconsin Valley Fair, he was a certified judge and judged at that and other fairs in the area.
Louis Becker married Miss Barbara Buchberger in Milwaukee. Together they had two children. Tragically, Ms. Becker died in 1897. Two years later Lewis married his first wife’s sister, Miss Catherine Buchberger, and they had five children.
Louis Becker, at age 87, died on May 21, 1952. He is buried in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Wausau, WI.
