Background:

Charles Anderson, son of Maurice and Mary Ann (Abrahamson) Anderson, was born in Amherst, Wisconsin on July 6, 1919.



Accomplishments:

Charles Anderson resided in the village of Nelsonville for 21 years, where he owned and operated the Nelsonville Milling Company.  He was cashier at the Security State Bank in Amherst Junction and owned and operated a real estate, auction and insurance business.  He was a former Portage County Treasurer, Portage County board member, Nelsonville village president, Tomorrow River school board member, and Portage County Republican Party Campaign Chairman.

In 1961 Mr. Anderson moved to Wausau, WI to help organize Peoples State Bank.  He served as its first executive officer and was president when he retired in 1981.  He later served the bank as chairman of the board and was vice chairman at the time of his death. 

On September 27, 1939, Charles Anderson was united in marriage in Evanston, Illinois to Helene Hanke.  In their marriage they raised two sons.  Mr. Anderson was a member of the Wausau Lions Club and was instrumental in the purchase of the Lions Camp for the Blind in Rosholt in 1956.  He was a former member of the Wausau Chamber of Commerce, the Wausau Club Sons of Norway and the Elks Club.  He was a veteran of World War II serving in the Army and a life member of VFW Post 22 in Amherst. 

Charles Anderson died at the Wausau Hospital Center on January 20, 1989, due to complications from Parkinson’s disease.  He is buried in the Nelsonville Cemetery in the Town of New Hope, WI.
