History Speaks: Moonshine in the Northwoods

AL Capone, clever moonshine production, extorsion plots, kidnapping, hideouts and more! From Hurley to Crandon and beyond, learn how Northwoods moonshine influenced the region, both before and after prohibition, through a new collection of historical documents. See the correspondences, photographs and memerobelia that celebrate a great chapeter in our Northwoods heritage. 

We will be joined by guest presenter Jim Bokern, historian and archeologist. Recipient of the 2022 Historical Preservation award from the Wisconsin Historical Society and the 2023 Fixmer award from the Forest History Association of Wisconsin, Bokern has led archiological surveys on the Chain of Lakes, acted as historian for fur trade surveys with the Lac Du Flambeau Tribal Historical Preservation Office, and taught history for more than 34 years.
