This month we are featuring the stories of four Wausau buildings- one lost and the others saved, in recognition of Historic Preservation Month.

If you've ever been talking to someone from outside Wisconsin, who recognized the name "Wausau," they probably learned about the Marathon County Seat because of one of these companies and their products. So this month we are featuring the stories of these companies that "Put Wausau on the Map."

This month we decided to put a well-deserved spotlight on a few kinds of maps, to learn how to read and interpret them, and to see a few stories they can tell us.

Our Winter Sports series will take you back in time to how and when many winters sports began in Marathon County. This series is presented by historians Gary Gisselman and Ben Clark.

Join archivist Ben Clark as he explains the history of the health institutions of Marathon County. From the early Ticket Hospitals to the creation of 20th Century hospitals that merged to become Wausau Hospital Center, to the County-run Poor Farm, Asylum, Sanitarium, Home and Hospital

For the first few weeks of our History Chats program, Librarian Gary Gisselman took us on a week-by-week trip through the school history of Marathon County. Gary originally planned on sharing the history of the schools as one larger presentation for our History Speaks lecture series, which was unfortunately canceled due to the start of the COVID-19 measures. And so rather than let his research and preparation go to waste, it was repurposed for the first few weeks of the History Chats. From September 2020.
