Writing family memories continues, format changes at Marathon County Historical Society
Writers, amateur historians, family genealogists, and anyone else who wants to preserve memories: This fall will see a more focused direction for the club that encourages people to write family stories. Remember When Writers will meet monthly at the Marathon County Historical Society beginning in September.
Remember When Writers will have a dual focus on preserving family memories and improving writing skills. Group members will be encouraged to write a short story each month that can be read aloud at the meeting. Each session will also include a mini-lesson on writing.
This group previously was known as the I Remember When Club, which had a more casual format.
Remember When Writers will meet monthly on the second Thursday from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The next meeting will be September 12, 2019, at the Woodson History Center, 410 McIndoe St., Wausau. This group is free and drop-ins are welcome.
Our related exhibit, Our Stories: The History of Marathon County, shows the importance of the everyday lives of ordinary people who lived, worked and played in our area. Everyone’s story contributes to the vibrancy of the community. This exhibit is free and open to the public anytime during the Historical Society’s regular business hours, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays, and 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. We are closed Mondays and holidays.
